Position Overview
As a Full-Time Video Editor, you will be responsible for shaping the narrative voice, emotional arc, and visual storytelling of Lampstand’s documentary and nonfiction projects. Working from creative briefs developed by our producers, directors, and project leads, you will take projects from raw footage through final delivery.
You will work closely with directors, producers, motion graphics artists, and cinematographers to edit compelling stories that meet both our creative vision and technical standards. The ideal candidate is equally comfortable finding the heart of a story in a three-minute film and developing a sustained narrative across a long-form or episodic project.
Key Responsibilities
- Edit short-form and long-form documentary projects from assembly through final cut, including rough cuts, fine cuts, and picture lock.
- Collaborate closely with directors and producers to develop narrative structure, pacing, and emotional tone.
- Distill extensive interviews and footage into focused, emotionally resonant stories.
- Incorporate interviews, vérité footage, b-roll, archival material, graphics, music, and natural sound to build compelling scenes and sequences.
- Sync and organize raw footage, create and maintain project timelines, and manage media efficiently.Apply color correction, sound design, and basic motion graphics (as needed).
- Prepare materials for online editing, color grading, audio mixing, and final delivery.
- Ensure projects meet technical specifications for various platforms (broadcast, streaming, web).
- Manage multiple deadlines and revisions with flexibility and professionalism.
- Stay up to date with industry trends, editing techniques, and relevant software updates.
Required Qualifications
- Three or more years of professional editing experience, preferably in documentary, nonfiction, or interview- driven storytelling.
- Demonstrated experience editing both short-form and long-form stories, or the ability to apply strong documentary storytelling instincts across formats.
- Proficient in DaVinci Resolve (knowledge of After Effects and Photoshop is a plus).
- A strong sense of story, including narrative structure, pacing, emotional development, and visual taste.
- Experience shaping interview-based material into cohesive and compelling narratives.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating closely with directors, producers, and other members of the creative team.
- Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- A strong portfolio showcasing documentary or nonfiction story editing is required.
Preferred Qualifications
- Background in journalism, advertising, documentary or related storytelling disciplines.
- Familiarity with color grading and sound mixing standards.
- A comfort or experience in telling faith-based storytelling is a plus but not required.
- Basic knowledge of documentary licensing, releases, and legal compliance.

Whenever possible, submitted examples should demonstrate experience with both short-form and long-form or episodic storytelling.
